It’s that time again—January, when gyms are packed, salads are mysteriously sold out, and everyone suddenly remembers they own a yoga mat. Resolutions are in. But instead of the usual “drink more water” (we all need to, but let’s face it, we won’t), I’m going for goals that are realistic, refreshing, and might even bring a little joy along the way.
Here are my resolutions for 2025, feel free to steal them, because let’s be honest, we could all use a little extra motivation.
Spend More Time Doing Nothing
Hear me out. We’re all running on the hamster wheel of productivity, but this year, I’m carving out time to do absolutely… nothing. No multitasking, no doom-scrolling, just sitting in peace and letting my brain breathe.
Why you should too: When was the last time you gave yourself permission to just be? Bonus: It’s free, requires zero equipment, and won’t make you sweat (unless you’re really overthinking doing nothing).
Declutter Without Marie Kondo-ing Everything
I’m not saying every single thing in my home has to “spark joy,” but if it actively sparks chaos, it’s gotta go. No aggressive minimalism here! Just a realistic approach to making space for things that matter.
Why you should too: A clear space equals a clear mind. Plus, do you really need that random drawer full of cables from gadgets you haven’t owned since 2010?
Make Exercise Fun (Or At Least Tolerable)
Look, I’ve tried forcing myself into early-morning boot camps, and my body said, “Absolutely not.” So this year, I’m opting for movement I actually enjoy, dancing in my living room, long walks, or yoga that doesn’t involve standing on my head.
Why you should too: Life’s too short to hate every minute of your workout. If you love it (or can at least tolerate it), you’re more likely to stick with it.
Say “No” Without Apologising
This one’s a game-changer. Whether it’s declining a party invite or skipping that extra work project you just don’t have capacity for, “no” is a complete sentence.
Why you should too: Overcommitting is so 2024. Protect your peace, and skip the guilt, it’s liberating.
Embrace the Messy Middle
We’re all so focused on achieving goals that we forget to enjoy the process. This year, I’m giving myself grace for the moments when life isn’t picture-perfect.
Why you should too: It’s okay if things are a little messy, whether it’s your kitchen counter or your career. Progress isn’t linear, and sometimes the best memories come from the chaos.
Stop Trying to Fix Everything
Not every situation needs a solution, some things just need time, space, or acceptance. This year, I’m learning to let go of what’s beyond my control (like the fact that my favorite TV show still hasn’t been renewed).
Why you should too: Fixing less doesn’t mean you care less. It just means you’re saving your energy for things that truly make a difference.
Treat Yourself Like You’d Treat Your Best Friend
Would you tell your best friend they’re not doing enough or criticise them for needing a break? No? Then let’s extend the same kindness to ourselves in 2025.
Why you should too: You deserve the same love and encouragement you give to everyone else. Go ahead, be your own cheerleader, you’re doing great!
2025 is the year we let go of the unnecessary, embrace what really matters, and maybe, just maybe—finally drink that extra glass of water. Let’s make it a good one, shall we?
