Fun Activities You Should Try Before Summer Ends!

Summer’s finally here, and if you’re like me, you’re ready to make the most of those sunny days and warm nights. There’s just something about this season that makes us want to go out and soak up every bit of it.

Remember those summer days as a kid when the possibilities felt endless? Riding bikes until sunset, running through sprinklers, and eating popsicles without a care in the world?

Well, who says those days have to end just because we’re all grown up now? Summer is a chance to reconnect with that sense of wonder and fun, to try new things, and to make memories that will keep us warm all year long.

So, grab your shades and sunscreen because I’ve got a list of super fun things to do this summer!

Picnic in the Park

There’s something magical about spreading out a blanket, munching on your favorite snacks, and soaking up the sunshine. Pack a basket with all the goodies you love—think sandwiches, fruit, maybe a few cookies—and head to your local park.

But don’t stop there! There are so many fun things you can do to make your picnic in the park even more enjoyable. Bring a good book and get lost in a great story, or pack some games like a frisbee, soccer ball, or a deck of cards to keep everyone entertained. If you’re feeling creative, bring along some art supplies for outdoor painting or sketching, or do some yoga or meditation to relax and unwind.

After your picnic, take a leisurely stroll around the park, explore the trails, and admire the flowers. You could even have a mini photo shoot, capturing candid moments and beautiful scenery.

Beach Day

If you’re lucky enough to live near a beach (or can take a trip to one), make it a day to remember. Pack your essentials—beach ball, sunscreen, and a great playlist to set the perfect summer vibe.

Start your day with a refreshing swim in the ocean. The cool water is a great way to get some exercise while having fun. After your swim, dry off and get creative with sandcastles, especially if you’re with little kids. It’s like a fun little activity for everyone!

Don’t forget to bring along a good book or magazine for some quality relaxation time. There’s nothing quite like lounging on a beach towel with a cold drink in hand, getting lost in a great read while the waves crash in the background. For a bit of adventure, try your hand at beachcombing. Walk along the shore and see what treasures you can find—colorful seashells, interesting rocks, or maybe even a piece of sea glass.

As the day winds down, you can even stay and watch the sunset. Watching the sky change colors over the ocean is a serene way to end your beach adventure.

Outdoor Movie Night

Who doesn’t love a good movie under the stars? You can turn your backyard into an outdoor cinema for an exciting movie night. Or you can at least try to!

Start by setting up a projector and a large screen or a plain white sheet stretched taut. Arrange comfortable seating with cozy blankets, pillows, and lawn chairs to create a relaxed atmosphere. If you’re feeling fancy, you can go the extra length and even string up some fairy lights or lanterns to add a touch of magic as the sun sets.

Of course, no movie night is complete without a variety of snacks. It’s honestly my favourite part of movie nights. Pop some popcorn and set up a snack bar with an assortment of treats like candy, nachos, and even some healthier options like fruit skewers. For drinks, try sodas, iced tea, and maybe even a special summer punch.

Host a Themed BBQ

If you love hosting, you’re going to love this! We typically host dinner parties in the house but during the summer, it’s time to take the fun outside.

You could try hosting a BBQ party! But not just any BBQ party, a themed one to your summer gathering extra special.

Start by choosing an exciting theme. Maybe it’s a taco night, a Hawaiian luau, or a retro 80s cookout. Once you’ve settled on a theme, it’s time to deck out your space.

For a Hawaiian luau, you could try tropical decorations like tiki torches, leis, and pineapple centerpieces. If you’re going with a retro 80s vibe, bring out the neon colors, cassette tapes, and maybe even a disco ball.

Next, plan a menu that fits your theme. For a taco night, set up a taco bar with all the fixings—various meats, veggies, salsas, guacamole, and plenty of cheese. Your guests will love customizing their own tacos.

A Hawaiian luau calls for dishes like grilled pineapple, teriyaki chicken, and coconut shrimp. Don’t forget to include some tropical drinks, like mai tais or piña coladas. For an 80s cookout, think classic BBQ fare with a twist—burgers, hot dogs, and potato salad.

Entertainment is key to keeping the party lively. Create a playlist that matches your theme to set the mood. For a taco night, you could play some lively Latin music. For a luau, go with some smooth Hawaiian tunes.

And for an 80s party, of course, it’s all about the greatest hits of the decade.

Last but not least, encourage your guests to dress up according to the theme. This adds an extra layer of fun and makes for great photo opportunities. With delicious food, festive decorations, and engaging activities, your themed BBQ will be a hit.

Hiking

If you’re into nature and a bit of exercise, why not hit the trails? Hiking is a fantastic way to explore the great outdoors, get some fresh air, and enjoy breathtaking views.

To make the most of your hiking adventure, start by researching local trails or parks you’ve never visited before. Websites, apps, and local guidebooks are great resources to find the perfect hike for your skill level and interests.

Before you head out, make sure you’re well-prepared. Wear comfortable hiking shoes, dress in layers, and pack a backpack with essentials like water, snacks, a map, and a first-aid kit. Don’t forget your sunscreen and a hat to protect yourself from the summer sun.

As you hike, take the time to truly immerse yourself in the beauty of the summer season. Listen to the birds singing, feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, and breathe in the fresh air. Stop frequently to appreciate the stunning vistas, take photos, and maybe even jot down some notes in a nature journal.

For those who love a bit of a challenge, try setting goals for your hikes. Maybe it’s reaching the summit of a local peak, completing a longer trail, or identifying different plants and wildlife along the way. Each hike can be a new adventure, offering not just physical benefits but also a mental and emotional reset.

So there you have it—a bunch of fun activities to fill your summer with joy and adventure. Whatever you choose to do, make sure you soak up every moment and enjoy the season to the fullest. Cheers to a fantastic summer ahead!
